The San Francisco 49ers had some unexpected news as rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an armed robbery that left him hospitalized after being shot in the chest. Thankfully, he has now been discharged, and his mother, Erin Pearsall, took to social media with immense gratitude, expressing her belief that divine intervention played a significant role in her son’s survival.
On Saturday, the team shared that Pearsall had sustained a serious injury but was in stable condition following the shooting. In a heartfelt update, his mother conveyed the gravity of the situation and her relief, declaring, “First and foremost, I want to thank GOD for protecting my baby boy. He is extremely lucky, GOD shielded him.” She shared that while the bullet entered his chest, it exited out his back, narrowly missing any vital organs.
Pearsall’s brush with death occurred in the vicinity of Geary Street and Grant Avenue, where a physical confrontation between him and an attempted robber escalated. The San Francisco Police reported that both the victim and the suspect suffered injuries during the struggle. Authorities have since taken the teenage suspect into custody, and the District Attorney’s office announced charges including attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
Just a day after the incident, Pearsall was able to leave the hospital, and the 49ers extended their thanks to the medical staff and first responders who aided him. General Manager John Lynch remarked on Pearsall’s condition during a press briefing, attributing his recovery to “the grace of God,” and noted how fortunate they were to have him still with them. “This really makes you stop and reflect on how precious life is,” he commented.
The rookie, who was drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft after his time playing college ball at Arizona State and the University of Florida, remains in good spirits despite the ordeal. Due to his injuries, however, he will not participate in the opening games of the NFL season as he recovers, being placed on the non-football injury list. The 49ers are set to kickoff their season against the New York Jets, but Pearsall will be on the sidelines during this time.
Throughout this ordeal, Pearsall’s strong faith has shone through. Prior posts reveal a deep gratitude for life’s blessings, including a declaration of thanks to his “lord and savior Jesus Christ” when he announced his decision to enter the NFL Draft. His mother’s heartfelt message resonates with that same faith, as she urged others to “please love [each other]” and reflecting on how precious life really is.
