CNN recently celebrated Dylan Mulvaney as its “game changer” of the week, highlighting the trans influencer’s impactful journey. In a candid moment from his childhood, Mulvaney shared with his mother that he believed “God made a mistake” regarding his gender.
This recognition aired on “CNN News Central,” marking two years since his prominent association with Bud Light, which had sparked significant backlash from conservative circles.
Mulvaney rose to fame through his TikTok series, “Days of Girlhood,” where he documented his experiences transitioning from male to female.
In an insightful dialogue with CNN’s Sara Sidner, Mulvaney discussed the backlash following the Bud Light campaign and his upcoming book. Reflecting on his upbringing, he recounted informing his mom at just four years old that “God put a girl into a boy’s body,” a sentiment that initially met resistance from her.
Mulvaney expressed a sense of ongoing exploration with faith, stating, “I don’t think I’m a mistake… I’m still finding a version of a higher power for my life now.” Highlighting the alienation many in the trans community feel, he noted that faith often gets weaponized against them.
When prompted about legislative challenges faced by transgender individuals, Mulvaney responded to Sidner’s concerns regarding government restrictions on gender identity.
Sidner referenced policies that limit gender recognition and access to facilities, encapsulating the current climate surrounding transgender rights. A recent poll indicated that nearly half of Americans believe society has over-accommodated transgender people, while a smaller percentage feels the opposite.
Opposition also exists regarding trans-identified individuals in women’s sports, with many Americans voicing their concerns against hormonal treatments for minors. Some states have enacted strict policies requiring trans athletes to compete based on their biological sex, creating a complex legal landscape.
