Katy Perry’s Elite Joyride, 11 Minutes on Bezos Billionaire Rocket

Pop star Katy Perry traded the stage for space, blasting off on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket for a quick trip to the cosmos. The “California Gurl” joined an all-female crew for the jaunt, including Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez and CBS host Gayle King.

The six women strapped into the New Shepard rocket in West Texas for the ride, billed as the first all-female space crew since a lone Soviet cosmonaut flew in 1963. Also onboard were a former NASA scientist, an activist, and a producer.

Their $475,000 joyride lasted just 11 minutes, barely enough time to unbuckle. The capsule shot 66 miles up, giving the crew a few fleeting moments of weightlessness at the edge of space before parachuting back down.

While the price tag puts the trip out of reach for pretty much everyone, it didn’t stop celebs like Oprah and the Kardashians from turning out to watch the launch.

Back on solid ground, Perry, clutching a daisy for her daughter Daisy, sang a rendition of “What a Wonderful World.” The brief flight adds another notch to the growing list of celebrities hitching rides on billionaire space toys.
