SNL’s Unfiltered Queer Sketch Abandons Mainstream Viewers

Saturday Night Live took a dive into very specific territory over the weekend, airing a sketch called “It’s Pride Again” that didn’t exactly pull its punches. The April 12th episode went all-in on queer themes, presented by a cast and writing team heavy with openly LGBTQ+ individuals. Forget watering it down for the masses; this was unfiltered.

The sketch, featuring regulars Bowen Yang and Punkie Johnson alongside guest host Anya Taylor-Joy and musical guest Lil Nas X, offered up inside jokes and satire aimed squarely at LGBTQ+ subcultures. Think rapid-fire lesbian move-ins and guys complaining about performative straightness, all capped off by Lil Nas X telling folks to, well, “post hole, posthaste.”

Written by Celeste Yim, Bowen Yang, and Sudi Green, the segment was hailed by some outlets as a shift for SNL, moving away from jokes tailored for straight audiences and towards something more authentically, perhaps aggressively, niche. It was a loud declaration, a kind of humor rarely seen on such a mainstream stage without a filter.

This wasn’t just a one-off gag, either. It seems to be part of a direction SNL has been leaning into, focusing on collaborations that center specific viewpoints. Whether this approach lands with everyone remains to be seen, but it certainly got people talking about just how much the cultural landscape, even on late-night TV, is changing.

It’s like trying to open a door that trans people can get away with a crime that no one else can and that we the people are suppose to be ok with that. Discussing, and really makes me really want to hate trans people for Thier arrogants.
