He highlighted the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, which is spearheaded by none other than Elon Musk.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd, Trump emphasized the department’s mission to curb waste and fraud in government spending.
During his speech, he pointed to significant sums, such as $520 million spent on consultants focusing on environmental, social governance, and investments in Africa, as examples of funds he aims to recover.
In total, he outlined taxpayer-funded initiatives that included $25 million on biodiversity efforts in Colombia and $10 million dedicated to medical male circumcisions in Mozambique.
Even amid legal challenges faced by DOGE from Democratic lawmakers, Trump didn’t shy away from showing his support for Musk, stating, “He’s doing a great job.”
He pledged to eliminate “unnecessary, incompetent, and corrupt bureaucrats” within the federal workforce, deeming the current atmosphere “very corrupt.”
Earlier, Trump had reached out to Musk on social media, asking him to “get more aggressive” in their efforts, to which Musk replied positively.
Trump also revealed plans to visit Fort Knox, Kentucky, alongside Musk, to inspect the U.S. Bullion Depository’s stash of what is reported to be $425 billion in government gold.
In a light-hearted moment, he mused about the possibility of opening the vault to find no gold inside.
Turning to policy matters, he spoke candidly about his administration’s stance against “critical race theory” and what he called “transgender insanity,” asserting that his government recognizes only two genders: male and female.
Trump remarked on how far perspectives have shifted over the past decade, lamenting about the confusion surrounding these issues now compared to years ago.
He also took pride in releasing 23 pro-life activists labeled as “political prisoners” for their opposition to clinic access laws.
Other speakers during the conference echoed Trump’s sentiments, lauding the focus on issues like school choice and immigration reform.
The three-day event at CPAC aimed to reinforce Trump’s influence on the political stage; a straw poll indicated nearly unanimous support for his leadership.
Closing his address, Trump touted the rapid pace at which he initiated executive actions, stressing the urgency of “saving the country.”
He declared that his efforts were revitalizing communities such as Aurora, Colorado, and Springfield, Ohio, restoring jobs and improving quality of life for many Americans.
