A California community is reeling after a 13-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by his youth soccer coach – an undocumented man from Honduras who reportedly hired the teen for housework just days before he vanished.
Young Oscar Omar Hernandez trusted his coach, 43-year-old Mario Edgardo Garcia Aquino. But just two days after hiring the boy on March 28th, Hernandez was reported missing. His body was tragically discovered on April 1st in a neighboring county.

Garcia Aquino now faces murder charges, and prosecutors have slapped him with additional charges of sexual assault against a minor. He’s set for arraignment on April 30th.
While NBC News and Univision didn’t shy away from reporting Garcia Aquino’s undocumented status, other major networks weren’t so forthcoming. ABC World News Tonight covered the horrific crime but conveniently left out the coach’s immigration situation. Telemundo also omitted that detail, and CBS News didn’t even bother reporting the story.
The Hernandez family is devastated, calling for justice for Oscar. Meanwhile, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna is urging any other potential victims to come forward, promising them their immigration status won’t be questioned – a statement made even as the community grapples with a heinous crime allegedly committed by someone illegally in the country. The varying media reports raise questions about why some outlets seem hesitant to report all the facts when the suspect is an illegal immigrant.
